Basmati Rice

No biryani, pulao or jeera rice without basmati: long, slender grains that stay separate and grow longer as they cook. We stock Indian basmati in the sizes a kitchen actually needs, from a 1 kg bag to try, through 5 kg for everyday cooking, to the 10 kg sack if you cook for a crowd.

The range includes Daawat Extra Long and Original, Banno Aged Basmati and Hasina Extra Long. Aged basmati is stored longer after harvest, and many people use it for biryani because the grains stay separate. For everyday rice with dal, a regular basmati is all you need. Tip: rinse the rice two or three times and soak it for 20–30 minutes so it cooks up fluffy, not sticky.

For a simple biryani, besides basmati you only need onions, yoghurt, ghee and a good biryani masala, all of which you'll find in the shop.

Delivery is free from €40 and €4.99 below that, the same price anywhere in Germany, and orders usually arrive within 2–3 business days.

Frequently asked questions

How much basmati rice per person?
About 75–100 g of uncooked rice per person as a side, closer to 100–125 g for biryani. A 5 kg bag gives you roughly 50 portions.
What's the difference between extra long and aged basmati?
Extra long refers to the grain length. Aged basmati is stored longer after harvest and stays separate when cooked, which is why it's popular for biryani. Both work for everyday meals.
How fast is delivery and what does it cost?
We ship across Germany, usually within 2–3 business days. Delivery is free on orders from €40; below that it costs €4.99, the same price wherever you are in Germany.
